Yesterday I received an update about some new technology that Google added into Adwords, the service that allows you to place ads through the Google network. Today I watched the video on this new technology and almost pooped my pants. Wow, the data that Google is now putting into the hands of marketers opens the door to a whole new level of efficiency and refinement. The link to the video is below. As a note there are a couple other technologies- like ad re-targeting that have also been released to the main stream, that will have a major impact. Re-targeting has been around for awhile and generally only utilized by the more advanced marketers.

Its interesting to watch the online marketing cost associated with making a sale (CPS), ebb and flow like the tide as we steadily move forward with new technologies. As saturation and competition occurs, costs go up- then a new method to refine the technology comes out allowing marketers to bring the CPS (and profit) back to a reasonable level. Then the process starts all over again.

This new tech from Google will assist in that effect – its seemingly a bit more complex from a planning/testing standpoint, but very powerful. I’m glad to see the world moving towards an “Ad-Supported”, “No-Spam Marketing” model, with all these laser targeting techniques. Cmon’ TV ads [spam]- catch up or please die.
